Spiced Lamb Koftas with Yogurt Sauce
*(Serves 4)*
Ingredients
For the Koftas:
- 1 lb (450g) ground lamb (or ground beef, chicken, or turkey)
- 2-3 tbsp of F N Good Food Jamaican Jerk seasoning (adjust to taste)
- 1 small onion, finely grated (or minced)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (or almond flour for gluten-free)
- 1 egg (optional, for binding)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
For the Yogurt Sauce:
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp fresh dill or parsley, chopped (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Serving:
- Warm pita bread or flatbread
- Sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onions
- Fresh parsley or mint for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Kofta Mixture:
In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, F N Good Food Jamaican Jerk seasoning, grated onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, breadcrumbs, and egg (if using). Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated. Cover and let the mixture rest in the fridge for 30 minutes to allow the flavours to meld.
2. Shape the Koftas:
Divide the mixture into 12-14 portions and shape each into a small sausage or oval shape. If using skewers, mold the mixture around the skewers.
3. Cook the Koftas:
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook the koftas in batches for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through.
Alternatively, you can grill them on a preheated grill or bake them in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes.
4. Make the Yogurt Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, and fresh dill or parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
5. Assemble and Serve:
Warm the pita bread or flatbread. Serve the koftas with the yogurt sauce, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onions. Garnish with fresh parsley or mint.
Tips
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the lamb with cooked lentils or chickpeas, mashed and mixed with the same seasonings.
- Adjust the amount of seasoning mix to your taste—start with 2 tbsp and add more if needed.
- If you prefer a spicier dish, add extra cayenne pepper or hot pepper flakes to the kofta mixture.
This dish brings the warm, smoky, and slightly sweet flavours of the F N Good Food Jamaican Jerk seasoning to a Middle Eastern-inspired meal. The creamy yogurt sauce balances the spices perfectly, making it a crowd-pleaser!
Enjoy!
